When, prey tell, did he stop becoming an "artist of merit", and become a "nostalgia act"? That's a very strange thing to say.

I really like Shot Of Love, I think I will start bitching and moaning about negativity when people slag it off or it doesn't pop up in people's top ten lists.
I went to 15 shows in 1991. If people hate that year, they are just Bob-haters and don't get it.
If people were to say slag off 1991 or Shot Of Love, nobody would whinge about negativity because it's in the past.
People always have and always will say the latest tour is the best ever. he's been getting beter every year since 1988 according to some people.
What is truly beyond me is that most people here are blind to hilarious threads and posters, and have absolutely no idea when people are taking the piss.
I hasten to add, I've been serious and obviously not joined in the pretend posters' glee of 2009 Bob.

I'm assuming this is rather tongue-in-cheek, but there's no requirement to fawn over everything that comes out of Bob Dylan. We all (presumably) enjoy his work. I think it's great that he constantly revises his material, but that doesn't mean I always like the changes. He gets bored, likes to mix up the arrangements, it's cool, I get it. I do feel like a lot of the songs are starting to sound the same, which I think is a function of the current arrangements and overall band sound. It's easy to be nostalgic, to say "boy, Dignity sure sounded better back in 2000," or whenever. Zimmy always pressing forward though.

What a great thread, thanks for the laughs. I knew NEP would be a good site to add to the Bob info, news and discussion I also get elsewhere, but never knew there would be so much free humor.
Nice one Charlie, pretending an adult would really care what someone's opinion was about a form of entertainment.Or that one could be so hypersensitive to criticism that it would be as if their kryptonite.

can we just make a sticky out of one of the several dozens threads we have had like this over the years so that every time a new group of people show up here and start to get established rather than have them get defensive on dylan's behalf they can read the old thread and see that the same damn can is getting kicked down the road.

I swear after reading the two posts previous to your post div, I thought it said, can we just make a stinky...

.
There's nothing quite like a periodic "trolls revisited" thread at The NEP. But to my point:

this: - I just d'loaded four songs, thanks to a poster at The 'tower. "Dignity," imo, is an arrangement that didn't/won't work.
- Half way through "Sugar Baby," I stopped listening to it.
- "Chimes" was average, at best. I nearly nodded off.
You were quoting me, here, 'burt. It appears that you chose to choose your comments rather selectively, making no mention of the fact that I posted an mp3 of "Shooting Star," and that I spoke of it, favourably.
